Dysmenorrhea – What It Is, Treatments, Causes

Treatment Options for Dysmenorrhea

Home Remedies

You can alleviate symptoms of dysmenorrhea at home with certain simple remedies. For temporary relief, consider placing a heating pad on the back or lower abdomen. The heat would relax your muscles and help alleviate pain. An alternative is to take a warm bath, ideally with aromatherapy for added benefits. Try to do regular exercises as well. Walking can prevent or reduce the severity of dysmenorrhea. If you feel too painful for these activities, consider yoga, aquatic-based programs, or similar gentle exercises. Dietary changes can help as well. Avoid foods and beverages that would promote inflammation, such as alcohol, red meat, dairy products, as well as caffeine.[7]
