6 Causes of Diverticulitis
Bacterial Infection
It is estimated that around 20% of the reported cases of diverticulitis are triggered by bacterial infections. When the bacteria flora in the digestive system is imbalanced, it would lead to some abnormal activities and lead to inflammation in different parts, including the colon. This causes weak spots and increases stress in the colon, which eventually creates pouches – the precursor of diverticulitis. While many strains are involved in this condition, scientists have found out that the elevated levels of some special bacteria are responsible for diverticulitis, including Clostridium coccoides and Escherichia.
