Differences Between Tremors and Dyskinesia

What Is Dyskinesia?

Dyskinesia is characterized by an uncontrollable movement in a specific area of the body, such as your head, leg, or arm. It may cause any of the following sensations: jerking, twisting, fidgeting, twitching, or restlessness. The main cause of this condition is the use of levodopa to treat Parkinson’s disease in the long term. The risk tends to be higher when you take higher dosage in the longer period. Another risk factor is getting diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease at a younger age. Scientists have not fully understood the exact cause of dyskinesia, but a possible explanation is the changes in the levels of certain brain neurotransmitters, particularly dopamine. [2]
