Occupational Exposure
An extended period of exposure to fumes, chemicals, or dust in the workplace would increase the risk of developing COPD. In fact, up to 20% of reported cases are caused by this trigger, making it the second leading cause of COPD after smoking. People in some special industries might be at higher risks, such as gold mining, coal mining, chemical production, or the textile industry. Farmers and other workers in agriculture can also suffer from this condition due to daily exposures to harmful pesticides. Therefore, protective gear and safety policies are needed to reduce the risks. [2]
