Amitriptyline to Prevent Migraine: Dose, Costs, Warnings, and More

Amitriptyline Dosage

Amitriptyline tablets are in three different strengths: 10 milligrams, 25 milligrams, and 50 milligrams. The liquid form also comes in these strengths, which contain 10 milligrams, 25 milligrams, and 50 milligrams of amitriptyline in each 5 millilitre spoon. The recommended starting dose for older children (between 12 and 17 years old) and adults is 10 milligrams per day. The doctor may suggest an increase in dosage to relieve more pain. For younger children, the starting dose can vary, depending on the symptoms and weight. The maximum dosage of amitriptyline for easing pain is 75 milligrams per day. Your healthcare provider may suggest even a higher dosage to help prevent migraine.[3]
