What Is Acute Monocytic Leukemia?
Leukemia is a form of cancer that affects the bone marrow, which subsequently leads to the production of abnormal blood cells. Acute myeloid leukemia or AML is the most prevalent form of leukemia in adults, accounting for up to 80 percent of the reported cases. Acute monocytic leukemia or AML-M5 is a subtype of AML, and it can affect how monocytes grow. In people with this condition, monocytes tend to become dendritic cells and macrophages. While it is still unclear how it occurs, some scientists have found some links to several genetic mutations. [1]
