Fungi can also be a cause of pink eye, even though cases like this are very rare. When an injury to the eye occurs, and the eye is exposed, fungi may get into the eyes and cause pink eye. Also if the eyes get in contact with things like soil or plants, conjunctivitis-causing may be transmitted to the eye. You will most likely never experience this type of pink eye if you protect your eyes well at all times. Furthermore, you can get this kind of infection if you use corticosteroid eye-drops for extended periods.
