10 Causes of Heel Pain

Sever’s Disease

Sever’s disease or calcaneal apophysitis is a common cause of heel pain, especially in athletes between 5 and 11 years old. This is an overuse injury triggered by repetitive trauma in small areas during running activities or sports. The pain occurs when the Achilles tendon on the heel bone is pulled. The risk is especially high in those people who often play soccer, basket, jump, or run. Symptoms include tenderness around the back of your foot and pain in the heel’s back. Also, swelling and warmth might occur. Most problems tend to resolve in several weeks with proper treatments, such as stretchings, icings, and pain drugs like ibuprofen or acetaminophen. [5]
