Some people feel unexplained fatigue or go out of breath while climbing stairs. All these can only happen if you have anemia.
Anemia is a medical condition in which the body is short of red blood cells. Red blood cells are vital in distributing oxygen through the body through hemoglobin and when the body does not have enough, the problem starts. This disease can be mild or life-threatening depending on the cause.
There are different types of anemia, and each type has its cause. Let’s take a look at the causes of anemia.
Shortage of Iron
Most people are ignorant of the importance of iron and what its insufficiency in the body can cause. Iron is an essential mineral needed for the proper functioning and well-being of the human body.
The red blood cells in your body contain a substance called hemoglobin. It is this substance that carries oxygen from your lungs and circulates it throughout your body. About two-thirds of the iron in your body is represented by hemoglobin and if your body is deficient in iron, it will not be able to produce sufficient oxygen-carrying red blood cells, which makes your body short of blood and leading to iron deficiency anemia.
Iron deficiency can occur in anybody, but it is more common in women because they get to lose blood every month. [1]
