Tecentriq is approved by the FDA for treating certain types of cancer. These include melanoma, liver cancer, urothelial carcinoma, small cell lung cancer, and non-small cell lung cancer. The medication can be taken alone or in combination with other chemotherapy drugs as a first-line treatment. Keep in mind that Tecentriq is not a chemotherapy medication, but an immunotherapy medication, which improves the immune system’s ability to fight off cancerous cells.
Tecentriq Off-Label Uses
In addition to the main use in treating the above forms of cancer, Tecentriq may also have some off-label applications. Off-label means that the drug that is approved for a disease can be used for treating another disease. Some doctors may suggest Tecentriq for a form of kidney cancer called renal cell carcinoma. Several studies have shown that combining this drug with bevacizumab might be effective in treating the condition.
