Self-Care Practices for People with Migraine

Take Medications Properly

The main goals of treating migraines are to stop symptoms and prevent other attacks in the future. Many medications are available to help with migraine treatment. They can be divided into two broad categories:

– Medications for alleviating pain and other symptoms: OTC painkillers (ibuprofen, aspirin), lasmiditan, ubrogepant, CGRP antagonists, opioids, or anti-nausea drugs.

– Medications for reducing the frequency or severity of migraines: beta blockers, calcium channel blockers, tricyclic antidepressants, anti-seizure drugs.

Follow the instructions of your doctor or the manufacturer to take these medications properly. This is important to help you manage the symptoms and improve the condition in the long term. [2]
