Insect and Bug Bite Identification

Bed Bugs

People tend to mistake bed bug bites for mosquito bites as they tend to appear as puffy, red, and small spots. However, they are likely to show up in clusters or lines, often 3 or more. You may notice distinct red marks in the middle. There should be not much pain, but you may have swelling and itchiness. Bed bug bites can usually be found on exposed skin areas that are in contact with the bed at night, such as the body trunk, neck, or arms. To prevent this problem, you should exam your bedroom and find these insects or their droppings in the mattress. [5]

Ants

Not all ant species can sting and bite. The most aggressive ant species that you may face would be a fire ant. These insects may hold themselves against the body and use their backend to sting. This would lead to a pimple-like pustule. Since the venom of fire ants is very potent, their bites can be very painful. You are likely to have multiple wounds around the body until fire ants are removed. The pain and inflammation would take days or up to weeks to disappear. You may sometimes need to check in with your healthcare provider. [6]
