IBS – Foods to Eat and Foods to Avoid

5 Foods to Eat

Eggs and Low-FODMAP Veggies

Eggs can be a safe food for people with IBS. They are nutritious and can be digested easily. There are many ways to prepare eggs, such as poaching, scrambling, soft-boiling, and hard-boiling. Frittatas and omelets may be great option for any meal during the day. You can also look for egg recipes in any restaurant. However, keep in mind that the responses of every person to eggs are different. Some individuals may be sensitive to fat content in egg yolks, while others experience problems with proteins of egg whites. [6]

Veggies can benefit gut bacteria and thus help with IBS symptoms. However, not all types of veggies are the same. It is better to start with veggies that are less likely to trigger bloating and gas. Some low-FODMAP options that may be included in an IBS diet include broccoli, bell peppers, bamboo shoots, zucchini, water chestnut, turnip, tomato, sweet potato, squash, potato, parsnip, parsley, green beans, eggplant, corn, celeriac, and carrots. Try to cook veggies as they tend to be gentler on the gut than raw versions. [7]
