How to Read an Audiogram

Hearing Thresholds

In an audiogram, you may notice shading, which represents five hearing thresholds. Each of these comes with a range of intensity measurements, from normal to profound hearing loss. The five hearing thresholds include:

– Normal hearing: 0 dB to 25 dB

– Mild hearing loss: 25 dB to 40 dB

– Moderate hearing loss: 40 dB to 55 dB

– Moderate to severe hearing loss: 55 dB to 70 dB

– Severe hearing loss ranges between 70 to 90 dB

– Profound hearing loss: over 90 dB

This scale helps you compare your level of hearing loss to the normal range. [5]
