How Do Your Eyes Make Voluntary Movement- Six Eye Muscles You Should Know

Types of eye movement disorders

The six extraocular eye muscles move the eyes to focus on the subject you are looking at. However, eye movement disorders can happen if eye muscles are overactive or weakened, causing strabismus. Depending on the direction of deviation, strabismus can be classified into three types. Esotropia is the most common eye misalignment characterized by inward deviation of one eye. Exotropia is the second most common type of strabismus that features outward eye(s) toward the ears. Exotropia typically happens when patients look far away. Hypertropia is the least common form of strabismus, with which people have one eye deviated upwards compared to the fellow eye. [9]
