Drinking Alcohol after a Workout – Is It Bad for You

Slow Down Muscle Growth

Another risk of alcohol consumption after a workout is to slow down muscle growth. This is particularly true in activities involving a lot of muscle soreness and damage, such as sprints, running downhill, or resistance training. A recent study examined the performance of three groups who did aerobic exercise and high-intensity weight training. After workout, one group took alcohol and carbs, one group took alcohol and protein shake, and one group took a protein shake. The results suggested that a lack of muscle-building nutrients, especially protein, may affect muscle recovery and growth. [5]
