Anesthesia Awareness – Causes, Risk Factors, Prevention and More

2Causes of Anesthesia Awareness

There are a couple of reasons why patients would experience anesthesia awareness during a surgical procedure. In most cases, it is caused by a problem in delivering the anesthesia medication. This would occur because of syringe swaps, which refer to mistakes made by the doctors or nurses. They would use the wrong drug or some device or technical errors may affect the amount of medication provided. If you are being sedated or have other health issues, there may also be a risk of anesthesia awareness. The condition is mostly linked to heart surgeries, cesarean deliveries, or other delicate procedures in which the use of the usual sedation amount might not be safe. [3]
