Alcohol Withdrawal Syndrome – Facts to Know

Symptoms of Alcohol Withdrawal Syndrome

The symptoms of alcohol tend to appear after a few hours or a few days of the last drink. There are often at least two of the following signs: nausea, anxiety, tremors, headache, vomiting, high blood pressure, nightmare, insomnia, confusion, irritability, sweating, and a faster heart rate. These problems would become worse after several days. Also, some milder signs would persist in many people for weeks. Symptoms tend to be more obvious when you get up in the morning with low alcohol level in the blood. In more serious cases, alcohol withdrawal syndrome can lead to delirium tremens, which are characterized by a fever, extreme agitation, extreme confusion, quick respirations, high blood pressure, faster heart rate, excessive sweating, visual or auditory hallucinations, and seizures. Visit a doctor immediately if you notice one of these signs. [3]
