8 Types of Herpes Virus & Infections

Cytomegalovirus – HHV-5

Human herpes virus 5 is also known as cytomegalovirus or CMV. It is the main trigger of mononucleosis in both children and adults. In those people with good immune systems, there are no clear symptoms caused by the virus, but a common sign can be gastrointestinal upsets. This strain would be transmitted through sexual contact and lead to issues in newborn babies. CMV can even cause hepatitis. In fact, CMV infection is among the most challenging complications of HIV/AIDS. In more severe cases, the virus can result in diarrhea, stomach infections, vision problems, or even death. [5]
