Epstein-Barr Virus – HHV-4

Human herpes virus 4 or Epstein-Barr virus is another common strain in humans. It infects the epithelial cells and B-lymphocytes, thus leading to infectious mononucleosis. HHV-4 can be contagious and is typically transmitted through bodily fluids, especially saliva through sharing utensils and kissing. But in many cases, the virus can still be spread through semen and blood during sexual contact, organ transplants, and blood transfusions. Most people would contract HHV-4 at some point during their lives, mostly during childhood. [4]
