10 Symptoms of Rosacea

Rosacea is a skin condition that affects millions of people. Scientists have not found the underlying cause. Currently, there is no cure for this disease. Nevertheless, many treatment options are available to alleviate the symptoms. Rosacea can be divided into 4 subtypes with different signs and risk factors. You might have more than one type at a time. In this article, we will take a look at 10 typical symptoms of rosacea.

1Visible Blood Vessels

Telangiectasia, also known as spider veins or visible blood vessels, is a typical sign of rosacea. It often affects the bridge of the nose, cheeks, and other areas of the central face. Enlarged blood vessels will become visible in these parts. They are thread-like and often pink, purple, or red. When a large number of vessels are clustered, there might be a look of a bruise or a red patch. This symptom tends to occur more in people with fair skin. Some factors may worsen the condition, such as wind, sun, injury, hormones, genetics, and older age. [1]

Redness

Due to the appearance of blood vessels on the surface, people with rosacea often experience persistent redness. This sign can be seen mostly in the central area of the face. In some cases, small blood vessels on the cheeks and nose usually swell and turn visible as well. The symptom is very visible and easy to notice. However, it may occur in many other health issues. Thus, make sure to inform your healthcare provider or doctor to find out the underlying cause. [2]
