10 Remedies for a Tooth Infection

Peppermint Tea

Peppermints contain many numbing properties that can help ease a toothache. Also, the active component in peppermint is menthol, which is antibacterial. To use this remedy, you need to steep 1 teaspoon of peppermint leaves, preferably dried, in boiling water. After 10 to 15 minutes, let it cool and swish around your mouth. You can then spit out or swallow these solutions. The same can also be done with peppermint oil. You only need to put a swab of this oil on the affected tooth to get a temporary remedy. [2]

Hydrogen Peroxide Rinse

Hydrogen peroxide solution can be an effective mouthwash to remove bacteria that cause the infection. First, you need to mix water with 3% hydrogen peroxide in equal parts. Swish in your mouth for around 30 seconds before spitting out. Make sure to rinse thoroughly a few times with water. Do not swallow because hydrogen peroxide may be dangerous. It is not recommended that kids should use this remedy to treat a tooth infection.  [3]
