Kidney Friendly & Harmful Foods

High-Potassium Fruits

In general, fruits are one of the healthiest foods to have in every diet. They are full of essential minerals and vitamins. Nevertheless, those with kidney issues should reduce their intake of some fruits that are high in potassium. When the kidneys are impaired, they cannot filter and remove potassium out of the body. As a result, it may lead to higher levels of potassium in the blood, a condition also known as hyperkalemia. Typical signs include muscle weakness, fatigue, and heart issues. High-potassium fruits include oranges, kiwi, apricots, avocados, and bananas. You do not have to avoid these foods in the diet, just try to cut the intake to make sure your body does not get too much potassium. Also, go for other fruits that are low in potassium, such as apples, mango, pineapple, berries, or grapes. [4]
