Three Types of Yoga Backbends
In general, yoga backbends can be divided into three main categories:
– Contraction: With this type, you need to contract the back muscles to overcome gravity. Most posts require you to lie on the front.
– Leverage: It involves the use of your legs or arms’ strength to deepen the pose, such as the Cobra or the Bow.
– Traction: This type requires the bending of the body with gravity with active muscles on the front part of the body to control the rate and range of movement. [1]
