Standard Cases
In standard cases, people with Whipple’s disease often start their therapy with 2 to 4 weeks of penicillin or ceftriaxone, which is administered through a vein in the arm. After this period, an oral course of sulfamethoxazole-trimethoprim should be taken in 1 or 2 years. There might be a few side effects, such as vomiting, nausea, mild diarrhea, or allergic reactions. Some other medications can be prescribed, including antimalarial medications or oral doxycycline. [8]
