What Is EGFR-positive Lung Cancer and How Is It Treated?

Prevalence of EGFR-Positive Lung Cancer

It is estimated that EGFR-positive lung cancer accounts for around 10 to 15 percent of lung cancer cases. 50 percent of these cases happen in young people. As said above, there are two main forms of lung cancer, including non-small cell lung cancer and small cell lung cancer. EGFR mutations are rare in small cell lung cancer. On the other hand, up to 32 percent of non-small cell lung cancer have EGFR mutations. Among these, EGFR mutations tend to happen in a subtype of non-small cell lung cancer called adenocarcinoma. [4]
