What Is Bursitis of the Shoulder?

Causes and Risk Factors for Shoulder Bursitis

The most common cause of bursitis in the shoulder is overuse or repetitive movement of the joint around this body part. Physical injury, such as a fall or a vehicle accident, may lead to the condition as well. Sports or activities that cause a lot of stress on the shoulder may be major risk factors. These include weight training, knitting, tennis, badminton, or baseball. Some professions are more vulnerable to shoulder bursitis than others, including musicians, painters, or athletes. Last but not least, certain medical conditions may increase the risk, such as gout, diabetes, and rheumatoid arthritis. [4]
