Colors and Stages of Bruising
A bruise often lasts 2 to 3 weeks. Some would take longer to improve, depending on the affected area and severity of your injury. During this time, there would be a change in colors:
– Red and pink: These tones often appear immediately after the incident that causes the bruises, such as a bang or bump into a hard surface
– Dark purple and blue: The bruises would become purple or blue after several days. This is probably due to swelling and low oxygen supply.
-Pale green: In the next stage, bruises would start turning into green. It indicates that hemoglobin in blood is breaking down. Also, this is a sign that the healing process has started.
– Brown and yellow: In the last stage, bruises start lightening to a light brown or pale yellow tone. After that, there will be no more color changes. Instead, the spots will fade away gradually and disappear. [8]
