What Is Dermatomyositis?
Dermatomyositis is an inflammatory condition that occurs in the muscles and skin. However, this rare disease can also affect other body parts. Studies have shown that it is an autoimmune disorder, meaning that it might trigger the immune system to mistakenly attack healthy cells. The defining sign is a skin rash appearing or developing simultaneously with muscle weakness. People of all age groups can be affected, but it mostly affects those between 40 and 60 years old. Women are more prone to dermatomyositis than men. There is currently still no cure for the condition, but many symptoms can improve with proper treatments. [1]
