Dermatomyositis – What Is It?

Symptoms of Dermatomyositis

In most cases, people with dermatomyositis develop a typical skin rash on different body parts. These include the elbows, knees, knuckles, nail cuticle, chest, eyelids, and face. The spot can be patchy and often have a bluish-purple color. Muscle weakness can also happen at the same time and become worse in a few weeks or months. This symptom tends to start in the hips, arms, or necks and can be felt on both sides of the body. Additional signs of dermatomyositis include fever, unexpected weight loss, fatigue, hard calcium deposits under the skin, lung issues, difficulty swallowing, muscle tenderness, and muscle pain. [2]
