Causes of Type 2 Diabetes in Children
Scientists have not found out the exact cause of type 2 diabetes in children. However, they believe that genetics and family history may play a key part. Excess fat, particularly around the belly, and inactivity may be risk factors as well. Type 2 diabetes occurs when the pancreas does not produce enough insulin to process glucose from food in the diet. As a result, sugar may build up and cause serious health issues rather than serving important functions in the body. In people with type 2 diabetes, the pancreas does not produce sufficient insulin or the body gets resistant to insulin. [3]
