What You Need to Know about Coronary Arteries

What are Coronary Arteries?

Coronary arteries are those blood vessels that transport blood to the heart muscle, also known as the myocardium. Unlike other muscles that can be at rest, the myocardium has to work constantly. Therefore, it tends to require a continuous and reliable supply of blood to ensure sufficient nutrients and oxygen. The coronary arteries play an important role in ensuring the proper functions of the heart. When blood flow through these vessels is partially blocked, it would lead to the ischemic heart muscle, a condition characterized by dyspnea, weakness, and angina. When a complete blockage occurs, a heart attack could cause many dangerous complications. [1]
