What You Need to Know about Coronary Arteries

Left Main Coronary Artery

There are two main coronary arteries: the left main coronary artery and the right coronary artery. The left main coronary artery arises from the main artery of the body called the aorta. It has two main branches: the circumflex artery and the left anterior descending artery. These three major vessels are responsible for supplying blood to the heart muscle, especially the left atrium and main parts of the left ventricle. Since the left ventricle is the main pumping chamber of the heart, a heart attack in the left main coronary artery tends to cause serious damages. [2]
