Tuberous Sclerosis – Causes, Symptoms & Treatments

Heart Issues

Small tumors in the heart muscles are quite rare in the general public. However, they can be very common in those patients with tuberous sclerosis. They tend to be at the largest size at birth and gradually reduce in size when you get older. Up to 80% of kids under 2 years old have at least one tumor, and 90% of them have a few. Prenatal ultrasound could be applied to find out a heart tumor after 20 weeks of pregnancy. Most of these growths don’t cause any issues, but some would lead to heart failure during the first few years. Many studies have shown that these tumors are associated with higher risks of arrhythmia later. [6]
