Causes of Transverse Myelitis
The cause of many cases of transverse myelitis might remain unclear in spite of the presence of inflammation. Nevertheless, others are linked to autoimmune conditions, such as sarcoidosis, Sjogren’s syndrome, systemic lupus erythematous, neuromyelitis optica, and multiple sclerosis. It is important to know that transverse myelitis is an unbiased disease, meaning that it can affect people of all age groups, from young people to the elderly, and regardless of race, gender, or family history.[3]
