The 7 Stages of Dementia

Severe Dementia

The last stage of dementia often starts with the loss of some important motor skills. People with this condition would gradually lose their capability to speak and communicate clearly. This is caused when the brain loses its connection with the body. Severe cases tend to cause the loss of most speech and verbal abilities. The brain is no longer able to control other parts of the body. In addition, many neurologic reflexes and rigidity would occur. Therefore, healthcare providers and family members have to support them with some basic functions, such as eating, walking, or taking the shower. While dementia is mostly progressive, some cases can be reversible with early diagnosis and treatment. Thus, make sure to stay informed about these different stages and seek medical attention as soon as you notice them. [7]
