Throat ulcers develop in the throat. More specifically, they form in the vocal cords and esophagus, which connect the stomach and throat. You could get a sore when a disease or injury leads to a break in the throat’s lining. Another cause is when the mucous membrane breaks open and does not heal. Common signs include a fever, red or white patches in the throat, difficulty swallowing, mouth sores, bad breath, a lump in the neck, pain, chest pain, heartburn, and trouble moving the jaw.
