Fibroadenomas and Fibrocystic Changes
Fibroadenomas are smooth, benign and solid breast lumps. They are the most common benign or noncancerous breast lumps. You can touch and make them move easily under the skin. These masses are more common in young women from 15 to 35 years old. Certain factors would be linked to the growth of fibroadenomas, including menstruation, hormone therapy, or pregnancy. Their size can vary and would shrink or enlarge over time. [6]
Fibrocystic changes in the breasts make them feel fullness and tenderness with ridge-like areas or lumpiness. You can feel these signs around the outer and upper parts of the breasts. It is not uncommon to have this problem. Many cases are associated with the menstrual cycle and improve after this period. Experiencing fibrocystic changes does not mean you have a disease. Some simple measures may help alleviate discomfort caused by fibrocystic breast changes. [7]
