Stomach (Peptic) Ulcers – Symptoms, Causes, and Treatment

Treatment Options for Stomach Ulcers

OTC Drugs

Many OTC medications can be used for treating stomach ulcers. There are two non-prescription drugs to deal with this condition:

– Bismuth subsalicylate: This drug can provide both an antibacterial effect against Helicobacter pylori. It is available in chewable tablets, tablets, or liquids.

– Antacids: Common OTC antacids include Rolaids, Mylanta, Maalox, Milk of Magnesia, Alka-Seltzer, or Tums. They help neutralize stomach acids, thus providing temporary alleviation from stomach ulcers. Also, these drugs can protect mucus. [6]
