Intravenous Fluids
After the brain swelling caused by Reye’s syndrome is under control, your doctor needs to make sure that the levels of electrolytes in the blood are balanced. Otherwise, reducing the body’s fluids with diuretics would deplete these minerals, which are important for basic functions. They play an important role in controlling the movement of fluids in between cells as well as enable electrical signals to run within nerves. Intravenous fluids containing an electrolyte solution or glucose might be injected through a line when you are in the hospital.[9]
