Hypervigilance
After a traumatizing or frightening event, you might be more hypervigilant or have a feeling of being on high alerts. Even when everything is peaceful, you can still feel very jumpy or nervous. Those things that usually would not scare you might send you to panic. This state of heightened awareness is necessary during the trauma, but unnecessary in your daily life. Some soldiers who used to experience a bomb in the combat might find themselves panicking or jumping when they hear the sounds of someone slamming the door or dropping the keys. [6]
