Oral Psoriasis Symptoms, Diagnosis, and Treatment

Inflammation

Inflammation is the main feature of oral psoriasis. It occurs when T-cells, a form of white blood cells identify pathogens in the body. As a result, they release TNF, an inflammatory protein, to protect the body. In people with oral psoriasis, T-cells mistakenly attack healthy cells even when there are no pathogens. This leads to the overproduction of skin cells that causes scaly, dry plaques to develop. [4]
