MS Relapses: Symptoms, Causes, and Treatment

What Are MS Relapses?

A MS relapse, also called as a flare, an episode, or an attack, is a period when symptoms occur suddenly or become worse significantly. During this time, symptoms tend to show up very quickly in a few hours or days. A relapse may last several days, weeks, or even a couple of months. In between MS relapses are remissions in which you may experience quite stable or even no symptoms. In people with relapsing remitting multiple sclerosis, a period of remission may last a few months or years. While relapses tend to occur during the first few years after a diagnosis, they may also happen at any time. [2]
