Main Causes of Low Platelets

Mineral Deficiencies

Another possible cause of low platelet count in many people is a deficiency in essential nutrients such as iron, folate, and vitamin B12. These components are important for the normal production of many blood elements like platelets. Lacking them would make it more difficult for the bone marrow to make sufficient platelets. That’s why it is necessary to consume foods with these minerals regularly.

The recommended intake of folate is 400 to 600 mcg per day in dried beans, kiwis, citrus fruits, and spinach. Vitamin B12 presents in dairy products, cereals, fish, beef liver, and shellfish. Ideally, you should consume around 2.4 to 2.8 mcg of vitamin B12 each day. [3]
