OTC Medications
Some OTC medications can help people with Crohn’s disease relieve mild diarrhea and pain during flares. These include:
– Antidiarrheal medications: They work by slowing down bowel contractions and alleviating episodes of diarrhea. You should only use them in the short term. Long-term overuse would result in severe side effects in your colon.
– Acetaminophen would be taken to relieve mild pain. It is a good replacement for NSAIDs, such as ibuprofen, naproxen, or aspirin, which would lead to ulcers and gastrointestinal bleeding. [7]
