Treatments
Since people with Korsakoff syndrome often lack thiamine or vitamin B1, many doctors often recommend oral supplements for heavy drinkers. The dosages and instructions should be followed under the doctor’s supervision. Studies have shown that extended treatment with vitamins and nutrients can increase the chances of improvement. Another option is to inject thiamine to people with a history of excessive alcohol consumption and have serious symptoms like extreme fatigue, prolonged nausea, acute confusion, high blood pressure, or weakness. This should last until the clinical signs improve.
If these treatments do not work, the doctor might suggest treatment options for medical conditions and comorbid deficiencies. This means you might need a supportive accommodation and residential care in the long term. [7]
