OTC Drugs
Some OTC anti-inflammatory medications, such as aspirin, naproxen, or ibuprofen would help you relieve knee pain in the short term. Some painkillers like acetaminophen can also be helpful, but they do not alleviate inflammation. Avoid NSAIDs as they would affect your kidneys and stomach. Also, keep in mind that some painkillers would have some side effects on the liver, so make sure to take the right dosages and follow your doctor’s instructions. Do not take painkillers with alcoholic drinks. A safer option is to apply a gel or cream with acetaminophen or NSAIDs to the painful knee. [11]
