Knee Bursitis – What You Need to Know

Causes

Knee bursitis would be caused by many reasons. A trauma or injury in your knee may lead to damage around the prepatellar bursa. This causes it to fill with blood, which eventually triggers inflammation. Some underlying health issues can also result in knee bursitis, including pseudogout, gout, rheumatoid arthritis, or knee osteoarthritis. Septic bursitis occurs when an infection affects the bursae. This cause is more common during the summertime. Bacteria can penetrate the body via an insect bite, puncture, or a cut. People with COPD, diabetes, alcoholism, lupus, HIV/AIDS, and cancer are more likely to suffer from septic bursitis. [3]
