How Do Heat and Humidity Affect Diabetes?

Overview of Diabetes

Diabetes is a medical condition that happens when the level of glucose or sugar in the blood is too high. Basically, blood sugar comes from foods in the diet and is the primary energy source in the body. A hormone called insulin is released by the pancreas to help store glucose in cells for energy. When diabetes occurs, the body does not use insulin properly or does not produce enough insulin. As a result, glucose builds up in the blood and leads to many health issues. Common forms of diabetes include diabetes type 1, diabetes type 2, and gestational diabetes. Currently, there is no cure for this disease, but many treatment options are available to help manage symptoms. [1]
