Up to 65 percent of people with Guillain–Barré syndrome experience an infection before they notice symptoms of the condition. Some common infectious issues that are associated with this disorder include hepatitis, dengue fever, respiratory tract, or gastroenteritis. Among these, many cases are triggered by cytomegalovirus and campylobacter jejuni, the bacteria that cause diarrhea.
